What would you say to your recruiter-self from the past?

As recruiters, we often find that as time passes, we learn great lessons that we would like to hear as advice from someone else since we started, which would have saved us a lot of time and energy.

That’s why for this blog, we invited ScreenIT IT recruiters, Fransueli Varela, Mary Cornejo, and Gisela Angeles to share their experiences with us; what is it that you would say today to your recruiter-self from the past?


Mary Cornejo, IT recruiter for 12 years.

-Don’t be so pessimistic if a candidate declines, keep looking,  someone will say yes.

-Never think negative because you attract what you think.

-Don’t worry about things that are out of your reach, or that you can not change.

-Set goals and get to them by working hard.

-Don’t let yourself be influenced by a negative response, always pursue the YES!

Gisela Ángeles, IT recruiter for 10 years.

-A good recruiter search for any kind of profile, because you are so passionate about the job, that you look for all the ways to fulfill that goal, researching and giving the best of you.

-Be nice to the engineers. Humility and equality in recruitment are important to generate synergy with candidates and partners, as well as learning from them.

– Continue with your goal, with what you like to do, always with respect,  not letting yourself impregnate with bad energy or habits from others, and you will make a difference.

Fransueli Varela, IT recruiter for 13 years.

-When you are asked for a new requirement, always talk to the client; knowing the environment, the boss and colleagues helps a lot to visualize the person on the team. If you interview someone and you see it there, THAT’S THE ONE!

-If you do not know something, or you have doubt, always ask!

-If you are asked for a new technology profile, always research before interviewing, and act with the candidates as if you already knew everything. They smell the fear,  and if they feel that you do not know … THEY WILL EAT YOU ALIVE!

– Always be kind and give feedback to the candidates, we are talking about people looking for a job, it is important to be sensitive, sometimes their family depends on that.

-No one is a gold coin,  sometimes a customer, a boss, a partner or a candidate, will not like you, but no matter what people think of you, do your best with kindness.
